The lights of the unmanned, fully-mechanised traffic system in Dhaka, implemented in the style of the developed world, are in disrepair. The system was set up in the capital’s Gulistan, Paltan, Gulshan-1 and Mohakhali areas at a cost of Tk 156 million with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Despite the investment, the automatic traffic lights are no longer working and the flow of traffic is still directed by traffic police.
