Md Faruk, a member of bdnews24.com’s Chattogram Bureau staff, was also injured in the attack in front of the bureau at Enayetbazar under the port city’s Kotwali Police Station on Thursday.

One ‘Jahid’ alias ‘Jibon’, brother to a local leader of the BNP’s youth wing Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, and a driver, Hamid Hossain, have been accused in a case over the attack.

Police detained Hamid from the scene.

Mintu said he saw Hamid swearing and quarrelling with Faruk after he parked his motorcycle in front of the office around 3pm.

Jahid and his associates assaulted Mintu and Faruk during the squabble, Mintu said.

“It seemed it was an intentional, planned attack,” the journalist added.

Jahid and his men had fled before the police arrived. Around 50 journalists also came to the scene later.

Police detained Hamid, who hails from Cox’s Bazar and is on the payroll of a businessman in the city.

Jahid from Goalparha in the city is a brother of Shamsul Alam, who is involved with Juba Dal.

Mintu has accused five to six unidentified associates of Jahid in the case.

Kotwali Police Station OC Md Mohsin told bdnews24.com he rushed to the scene after being told of the attack.

“We are trying to arrest Jahid. He had been charged over multiple criminal activities beforehand. All the accused persons will be arrested. We will find out the motive behind the attack,” the OC said.
