Neither the telecom operators nor the regulator BTRC provided any clear explanation as to why it happened, the newspaper’s Roving Editor Nadeem Qadir told bdnews24.com on Monday.

The outage of the website on the mobile internet started at 10:30am on Sunday, the newspaper said on Monday.

The online version of the newspaper is accessible on desktop computers, laptops, and also on mobile phones with Wi-Fi connections. Those browsing it from abroad could access it too.

The telecom operators have ‘blocked the link to their site’, Nadeem said citing complaints by their readers.

“But we haven’t received any clear explanation from the operators or the regulator,” he said.

“Such incidents dent the country’s policy of ensuring the freedom of the press. The Asian Age urges the authorities to identify the causes behind this inconvenience and to unblock its online version to all readers with immediate effect,” the newspaper said in a report.
