Journalists demonstrate on disappeared reporter Utpal Das' birthday 

Journalists in Dhaka have demonstrated with the demand that the law enforcers find their colleague Utpal Das.

They gathered at Karwan Bazar on his 29th birthday on Monday night and lit 29 candles, with their mouths wrapped in black clothes.

Online news portal PURBOPOSHCHIMBDNEWS Senior Reporter Utpal Das disappeared on Oct 10.

"I never imagined that someone could detain him," said Rajeeb Ahmed, one of the organisers of the programme.

"We are anxious as he remains untraced for 20 days. We want to believe the law enforcers will find him," he added.
Dhaka Union of Journalists General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Dhaka Reporters Unity President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, General Secretary Mursalin Nomani, former president Shahed Chowdhuery, former general secretaries Ilias Khan and Raju Ahmed, among others, joined the demonstration.
DUJ and the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists will demonstrate in front of the National Press Club for the same demand on Wednesday.
A human-chain protest under the banner of "Utpal's Colleagues" will be held at the same venue on Tuesday.
