DriveHer will exclusively run and used by women in Canada's largest city with around six million people, though the city streets are already crowded with ride-sharing services like Uber, Lyft, InstaRide, Facedrive and Taxify.

"But this service is unique as both the passengers and drivers are female," Aisha Addo, founder of the DriveHer told CityNews Toronto.

She also expressed her 'nasty' experience with ride-sharing service that motivated her to take up the initiative.

It took nearly two years of preparation to come to this point and on Mar 16 cars are rolling out to serve the female passengers in Toronto, she added.

DriveHer users will have a range of services through the app, including rescheduling options, safety tips and built-in emergency button in case they need assistance while in the car.

While the company will initially operate in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area or GTA but the plan is to expand to other cities gradually.

"DriveHer is both about safety and empowerment of women," Addo told MetroNews Toronto, adding "in a male-dominated industry like taxi-driving, incidents of sexual harassment, prying personal questions or lewd comments have been reported in Toronto and across the country."
