Youth dies from dengue at Kumudini Hospital in Tangail

A 22-year-old youth has died from dengue at the Kumudini Hospital in Tangail amid the massive outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh.

The dead, Arif Hossain Kajol, was a resident of Khoilshindur village in Mirzapur Upazila’s Uwarshi Union.

He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital around 10pm on Wednesday, the hospital’s Director Dr Pradip Kumar Rai said.

“Arif was admitted to the hospital with dengue fever on Aug 4. A massive hemoptysis attacked him on Wednesday evening. He was supposed to undergo blood transfusion, but he died before the procedure could be carried out,” the doctor said.

His body was handed to his family later at night, he said.

A total of 104 dengue patients have been treated at the Kumudini Hospital so far this year. Of them, 91 patients have recovered and returned home. Around 13 patients are being treated currently. Six more dengue patients have been hospitalised within 24 hours to Thursday morning, Dr Pradip added.

Coordinator of Tangail General Hospital Dr Narayan Chandra Saha said a total of 199 dengue patients were treated at the hospital until Thursday morning. Of them, 131 have recovered and returned home. Around 68 patients are undergoing treatment now.
