Teachers ordered not to consume tobacco, betel leaf at high schools 

The government has ordered the teachers to not take smokeless tobacco products like zarda and gul, and betel leaf at high schools across Bangladesh.

The teachers will not be able to smoke in the schools or in the presence of students outside the institutions either, according to orders issued by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education or DSHE on Wednesday.

Smoking is a behaviour unbecoming of a teacher and detrimental to public health while speaking after taking zarda, gul and betel leaf creates adverse reactions among students, the DSHE said in the order.
