The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and WaterAid Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday.

The survey will aim to find out current status of household toilet facilities, water sources, food and environmental hygiene, Wateraid said.

Running from this month to September 2018, the survey will be conducted both in urban and rural areas to assess hygiene knowledge, practices and facilities including handwashing with soap, cleanliness and menstrual hygiene management around households, schools, hospitals, restaurants and with traditional birth attendants.

BBS Director General Md Amir Hossain and Wateraid Country Director Md Khairul Islam signed the MoU. Secretary to Statistic & Informatics Division KM Mozammel Hoq witnessed the signing.

“This survey will play a vital role in the development of overall public health system and contribute in the attainment of government’s development vision,” Khairul Islam said.

Mozammel Hoq said information from this National Hygiene Survey 2017 will be instrumental to improve public health planning system and implementation, which will help achieve the SDG 6 targets.
