Bangladesh actor Siraj Haider dies at 71

Renowned film actor Siraj Haider has passed away.

The 71-year-old actor died at his home in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur around 6am Thursday, his son Lenin Haider told bdnews24.com.

Haider collapsed while going to the bathroom, his son said adding that stroke could be the possible reason for his death.

“I stayed up with him until 4am. He collapsed around 6am. We could not even take him to hospital.”

The death of the actor has saddened his fans and friends.

“He was a friend of my father. He treated me like his son. It’s hard to accept his passing,” actor Omar Sunny told bdnews24.com. 

Haider had been active in the film industry for the past 50 years. He started acting in 1962 when he was in grade IX.

He made his debut with the film ‘Shukher Shongshar’ where he played the role of an antagonist. Before that, he was a stage performer. He directed two films.

Haider’s mortal remains will be taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation or FDC where a funeral service will be held after Zuhr prayers, said Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of Bangladesh Film Directors Association.

Haider will be laid to rest in his village in Munshiganj.
