The Directorate of Inspection and Audit is organising the public hearings at those institutions under the education ministry.

Initially, the online hearings will be held 110 institutions of 11 districts.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the public hearings in a conference with 11 institutions on Wednesday.

He also opened a DIA project under which the information on the institutions will be filed electronically.

Launched in 1980, DIA has 65 officials and employees to inspect and audit all 36,000 institutions under the education ministry across Bangladesh. The video conferencing aims to address those shortcomings.

The education minister admitted that DIA officials take bribes from the institutions during the inspection.

He said, "It is impossible to inspect so many institutions with so little workforce."

“We’ve decided to send competent teachers for honest inspections,” he said.

“Those who are taking bribes – please, leave the profession until you have some honour. And, those working well with reputation will be awarded,” he added.

Secondary and Higher Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain was also present.
