Results of primary scholarship out, 82,500 students get government stipends

Names of the students securing scholarship in the Primary Education Completion (PEC) exams have been published.

So far, 55,000 students had been nominated every year for the government stipend, but this time the number has been raised to 82, 500 students.

Of them, 33,000 will receive scholarships in talent pool while the remaining 49, 500 in general category.

Minister Mustafizur Rahman announced the results at a media briefing on Monday.

He said that the government has not only raised the number of scholarships but also hiked the amount given out as stipend .

Those securing scholarships in talent pool will get Tk 300 per month instead of Tk 200 while in general category, Tk 225, up from the previous Tk 150.

Students receive the monthly stipend for three years— between grade six and eight.

The government now determines primary scholarship based on the students’ PEC results since 2009. Before that, separate scholarship exams were held.
