“We are now giving subsidy to the power sector, which means we are not taking power generation cost from consumers,” Hasina said while inaugurating the Power and Energy Week in Dhaka on Thursday.

At present, per kilowatt electricity generation costs Tk 6.25, but the government sells it for Tk 4.82 per kilowatt.

“But one day this facility will be withdrawn,” said Hasina. “When the country will see more socioeconomic development, the consumers will have to pay in line with the production cost.”

Keeping this in mind, Hasina urged all to practise austerity in using electricity as consumers are getting it at a very lower price, thanks to government subsidy in this sector.
