He also proposed exemption of VAT on the import of erythropoietin, a medicine used for the treatment of cancer and kidney diseases.

The poor and the low-income group, especially workers, eat cheap loaf, bread, buns, handmade biscuits and handmade cakes up to Tk 100 per kg, he said.

“Considering this, I’m proposing to waive VAT on these items which are priced below Tk 100 per kg. I’m also proposing to waive VAT on handmade cakes, except party cakes, priced below Tk 150 per kg.”

Low-income people use cheap sandals and slippers made of rubber and plastic, he said.

Muhith announced the measure to keep the prices of this product within the buying capacity of the poor and help this recycling-based industry flourish.

Prices of those items up to Tk 150 must be inscribed or written by inerasable ink to be sold at the retail level.
