Last budget session before next general election begins Tuesday

The last budget session of the current parliament is beginning on Tuesday.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith will propose the national budget for 2018-19 fiscal year in this session on Thursday.

Before the session is to start around 11am, the Business Advisory Committee will fix the length of the session in a meeting to be chaired by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina will attend the meeting.

Following the traditions, the session will be adjourned after the passage of a condolence motion over the deaths of MPs.

Senior Jatiya Party leader AKM Mayeedul Islam MP from Kurigram died on May 10.

An official said the finance minister would begin presenting the budget in the parliament around 12:30pm on Thursday.

He had said the size of the budget would be over Tk 4.5 trillion.

Before Muhith presents the proposed budget, the Cabinet will clear the Finance Bill.

According to the rules, the budget has to be passed within June 30.
