A study titled “SDGs Financing Strategy: Bangladesh Perspective” estimated that additional amount over the current provision of cost related to SDGs by public sector, private sectors and external sources.

The annual average cost of SDGs will be $66.32 billion (at constant prices) for this period, said the report prepared and published by the General Economics Division or GED, Planning Commission.

The report along with two others - Bangladesh Voluntary National Review or VNR 2017 on SDGs and A Training Handbook on Implementation of the 7th Five Year Plan—was launched at a programme in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The GED, Planning Commission and Engaging with Institutions (EI), IP Project, and UNDP Bangladesh jointly organised the event with Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and Political affairs adviser of the Prime Minister HT Imam as guests.

The GED, Planning Commission, with the financial and technical support of two UNDP projects---Support to Sustainable and Inclusive Planning (SSIP) and Engaging with Institutions (EI), IP Project---has prepared and published those three books relating to Bangladesh’s organised preparatory works for all-out implementation of SDGs.

The VNR 2017 on SDGs was prepared and submitted to UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July this year giving an account of progress of SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 3, SDG 5, SDG 9, SDG 14 and SDG 17 while SDGs Financing Strategy: Bangladesh Perspective provides an estimated additional cost for implementing the SDGs.

The “Training Handbook on Implementation of the 7th Five Year Plan” specifies the tasks to be done by each ministry or division.

The implementation of the 7th FYP has been linked with the implementation of SDGs in the country.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi Aminul Islam, and UNDP Country Director in Bangladesh Sudipto Mukerjee were also present at the programme.
