"The global target for eliminating poverty is 2030, but we will achieve it by 2024," he said on Thursday while addressing a seminar in Dhaka.

"Considering the way we are moving forward, I am confident that Bangladesh will be a developed country by 2041."

According to him, some seven percent of the population will depend on the benefits provided by the state then, just like now in Malaysia.

"Our country was born as a least developed one, but that’s not the case anymore. I ardently believe that Bangladesh will become a mid-income state by 2021 and a developed one by 2041."
