Factories to be set up in the zone will produce pharmaceutical and garment products, plastics, and tech and IT-related products, BEZA said in a statement.

During her official visit to China in 2014, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina promised to provide an economic zone for Chinese investors in Bangladesh. BEZA and China Harbour signed a memorandum of understanding last year.

The location of the zone in Anwara Upazila is near the Korean EPZ and Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company or KAFCO.

The industrial zone will be three kilometres away from Chittagong port upon completion of the Karnaphuli tunnel.
