EC’s allocation in new budget drops by Tk 2.09 billion

The finance minister has proposed an allocation Tk 12.91 billion for the Election Commission in the new budget, nearly Tk 2.09 billion less than the sum provided in the previous budget.
AMA Muhith presented a Tk 3.14 trillion national budget for the 2016-17 fiscal in Parliament on Thursday.
Of the proposed Tk 12.91 billion, over Tk 3.62 billion will be spent for non-development expenditure and Tk 9.28 billion for development work.
The Commission’s more important engagements in the in new fiscal is the updating of the voters’ list with photos, the holding of polls to several parliamentary constituencies, the Narayanganj and Comilla city corporations, several municipalities and over 500 expired Union Parishads.
It will also build a server station for data preservation, construct an EC Bhaban and Electoral Training Institute building, issue smart National Identity Cards, verify National IDs and develop an election management system.
