The finance minister has proposed a defence budget for the next fiscal which is bigger by nearly Tk 40 billion than the current one.
Abul Maal Abdul Muhith proposed an allocation of Tk 221.15 billion for the defence ministry while presenting the Tk 3.14 trillion national budget for the 2016-17 fiscal in Parliament on Thursday.
This is bigger by Tk 37.47 billion than the ministry’s original allocation in current 2015-16 fiscal and Tk 14.36 billion more in the revised version.
“Our efforts to improve the capacity and efficiency of army, navy, air force and border guards as well as to modernise them will continue,” Muhith said in his budget speech.
In the outgoing fiscal, the defence ministry was given Tk 183.83 billion, but was later revised to Tk 206.94 billion.
