GSB Director General Nehal Uddin said the organisation has conducted surveys in Santahar, Tilakpur, Badalgachi and Akkelpur in 2014-15.

Traces of valuable minerals were discovered at Badalgachi’s Tajpur during the survey, he said.

In January 2016, the Ministry of Mineral Resources approved a GSB proposal to check the possibilities behind those findings.

Nehal Uddin said a 30 member team has been deployed to Tajpur for investigating financially valuable natural resources and for data collection.

“We will spend three months drilling a well and checking for mineral resources,” Uddin said.

If coal or any valuable mineral resources are discovered, the respective department will let the government know the details such as quantity, further steps required and how to utilise the resources, he said.

Tajpur Investigation team leader and GSB Deputy Director Mahirul Islam said that a 4,000ft deep well will be drilled to conduct the survey.

The place to drill has been identified and the necessary machinery is on its way, he said.
