He gave the indication while talking to reporters after a meeting with Bhutan’s Speaker Jigme Zangpo at his office on Monday.

The job duration of Bangladesh Bank’s deputy governors Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan, Nazneen Sultana, and Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury expired on Jan 22.

Governor Atiur Rahman has already recommended the extension.

Answering to a question whether the deputy governors would get the extension, the minister said, “Well, let’s see. We need to talk to the public administration ministry.”

He added that it will take around three months to find their replacements if their services are not extended.

Muhith said the due procedure for appointing new officials will include the constitution of a search committee and inviting applications.

He also said he was hopeful about their extension.

“Services of governor, deputy governors are contractual, and it’s better that way.”

The finance minister had issued a letter to State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadek in 2014 asking her not to put government officers on contractual jobs if possible.

On his meeting with Speaker Zangpo, Muhith said, “Bhutan is always eager to expand its relations with Bangladesh.”

“They are happy that we have started importing boulders from them,” he added.

Commenting on the diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and neighbouring countries, Muhith said, “The relations are excellent, especially with three-four countries.”

Bhutan Ambassador to Bangladesh Aum Pema Choden was also present in the meeting.
