In response, the tourists started to bat and already lost three wickets for 31. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan removed KC Brathwaite and SD Hope, and Taijul Islam got rid of KOA Powell.

Jomel Warrican removed both Nayeem Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman in the fifth over of the second morning. The left-arm spinner finished with four wickets, as did Shannon Gabriel, who sparked Bangladesh's collapse in the first afternoon. The centrepiece of Bangladesh's innings was a sublime 120 by Mominul Haque.

Warrican had debutant Nayeem caught at slip after he'd made 26 off 74 balls, before getting Mustafizur lbw two balls after the batsman had survived another leg-before decision through a review. Most of the West Indies players had begun walking off after the first shout was upheld, and even the Bangladesh batsmen seemed to think the innings was done for, when they all had to return with ball-tracking showing the impact was outside off. However, the innings lasted only two more balls.

Taijul Islam and Nayeem added 65 runs for the ninth wicket that helped pick up the home side after the mid-innings collapse. They had ended the first day with their No 8, 9 and 10 playing out 148 deliveries with only Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed in the evening. both Taijul and Nayeem were stubborn in defence, at times taking the ball on their body too as West Indies tried to get the last two wickets cheaply.

Taijul survived two lbw decisions through reviews, while Warrican dropped the throw that would have caught Taijul short after the latter slipped and fell after being refused a third run. But until the umpires took them off for bad light on Thursday, the cricket was absorbing even if fraught with errors.

Bangladesh had begun by losing Soumya Sarkar in the first over of the match, before Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes added 104 runs for the second wicket. Imrul looked unconvincing in his 44 off 87 balls, also surviving two chances. Roston Chase dropped him at second slip when he was on 3 before Warrican overstepped as Imrul swept down deep square-leg's throat, on 16.

Mominul, though, looked serene at the other end, reaching his fifty off 69 balls. Mohammad Mithun fell to Devendra Bishoo off an ill-advised slog, and the bowler could have also had Mominul for 67 but wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich dropped the left-hander's outside edge.

Mominul reached his eighth Test century in the second session, first hammering a six when on 92, before cutting past point to reach the three-figure mark. But it was his dismissal in the post-tea session that sparked Bangladesh's collapse. He was out wafting at a Gabriel delivery before Mushfiqur Rahim, for the fourth time this year, was undone by a West Indian fast bowler's sharp inswinger. Gabriel then bowled Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan through the gate to reduce Bangladesh to 235 for 7; four wickets having fallen in the span of 4.1 overs for the addition of just 13 runs.
