Double ton from Mushfiq gives Tigers 497-run lead

A double century from wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has led Bangladesh to a 497-run lead at the end of play on the second day of the Mipur Test against Zimbabwe.

Mushfiq scored 219* in the first innings, the highest Test score by a Bangladeshi batsman, to help the Tigers to a massive total of 522.

Mushfiq became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score two double centuries. He had previously scored 200 against Sri Lanka at a Test in Galle.

The two other Bangladesh batsmen have double centuries in Test cricket - Shakib Al Hasan (217) and Tamim Iqbal (206).

Bangladesh declared at the end of the 160th over at 522/7.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was undefeated at 68* at the time. Mominul Haque had scored 161 before being dismissed on Sunday.

Zimbabwean pacer Kyle Jarvis was the most successful of Zimbabwe’s bowlers, taking five wickets for 71 runs. Tendai Chatara and Donald Tiripano picked up a wicket each.

Taijul Islam, who took an 11-wicket haul in the Sylhet Test, also gave Bangladesh their first breakthrough of the Zimbabwean innings by dismissing their captain Hamilton Masakadza.

At the end of play on Monday, Zimbabwe were 25/1.
