Mosaddek Hossain starred with the ball while Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed with bat to the victory at Sabina Park, Jamaica, on Friday.

The Caribbean side were 89 for six at one stage, but managed to score 227 thanks to a 91-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Yannick Ottley and Kavem Hodge.

Bangladesh reached the target with 39 balls in hand.

The one-off warm-up turned festive with a reception of Jamaican stars West Indies batsman Chris Gayle and former fast bowler Patrick Patterson by the local cricket association.

Gayle also played in the warm-up.

Another Jamaican star, Courtney Walsh, now Bangladesh’s bowling coach, received the crest on behalf of Patterson.

Bangladesh rested Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal for the match.

Mahmudullah led the Tigers as skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza appeared briefly due to jet lag.

After winning the toss, UWI Vice-Chancellor XI elected to bat first but lost their captain Chadwick Walton in the beginning.

Gayle could not brew any storm, but played a big hand in a steady partnership with Amir Jangoo with 29 runs.

Mosaddek stunned the Caribbean fans by taking the wicket of Gayle, Jangoo (29), and Nicholas Kirton (5).

When Mosaddek snared the wicket of Rovman Powell (6) from the final West Indies squad, his bowling figure was 4 for 8 in six overs.

He gave only six runs in his next four overs, but could not manage any more wicket.

Pacer Rubel Hossain also chipped in with three for 50 to stake his claim for a place in the playing eleven.

Andre Russell showed an appetite for a fight by hitting Mustafizur Rahman for a four and a six in an over, but the pacer stopped him at 11.

The Caribbean side were 89 for 6 at the time, but Ottley and Hodge’s partnership took them close to 200.

Ottley (58) fought on after Hodge (44) was sent back by Rubel.

The Tigers chased the target down in 43.3 overs riding on half-centuries by Liton and Mushfiqur.

Bangladesh’s opening was similar to that of their rivals – a 50-run partnership between Liton and Shanto for the second wicket after losing Anamul Haque in the first over.

The stand was broken when Liton retired hurt with the dup putting on 90 runs. Shanto (43) was out shortly afterwards.

The Tigers, however, could not avoid another debacle in the middle order.

Liton returned to the pitch after Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman and Mosaddek were out in quick succession.

Mushfiqur was on fire at the other end at the time.

Bangladesh were 14 runs away from the victory when Liton returned.

Mushfiqur took the Tigers to victory by hitting two fours and remained unbeaten on 75.

The first two games of the three-match ODI series will be played in Guyana on July 22 and 25 and the last one in Saint Kitts on July 28.

In the disastrous Test series for the Tigers, the West Indies won the first match by an innings and 219 runs and the second Test by 119 runs.
