One win can rejuvenate Bangladesh’s confidence, says Mahmudullah

A single win would quell worries, Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal had said after the first practice session in Sri Lanka. But victory eluded the Tigers in their first match.

Bangladesh Cricket team T20 Captain Mahmudullah repeated Tamim’s message following Bangladesh's defeat at the hands of India.

Sometimes the bowling falls short, other times it is the batting. The Tigers have yet to fire on all cylinders. Instead, they seem to be making the same mistakes. The tendency of allowing too many dot balls reared its head again on Thursday. The batsmen missed the opportunity to score on nearly half the balls during their 20 overs.

Mahmudullah says the dot balls are the result of doubts in the players’ own minds. Straight losses have affected the team’s self-confidence. But the captain looks ahead to a day when they will regain that confidence.

A single match could change everything for Bangladesh, Tamim had said. Mahmudullah holds the same belief.

“We only need to do well on one match. We need momentum. We are waiting. If we get some momentum you will see a renewed Bangladesh.”
