Tamim to pay fines, warned for calling BPL pitch, outfield ‘horrible’

A Bangladesh Cricket Board committee has recommended slapping Tamim Iqbal with a Tk 500,000 fine after warning him for criticising the pitch and outfield used in a BPL match.

Speaking at a news briefing in Dhaka on Monday, BCB President Nazmul Hassan said they also warned the opening batsman for his comments after the Bangladesh Premier League match between Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians on Dec 2.

At the post-match awards function, Tamim called the pitch horrible for the format.

He also criticised the outfield and the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium curator.  

The BCB called him to the hearing on his comments on Dec 12 and warned him against making such comments again.  

According to Nazmul, Tamim cannot make such remarks as the T20 International team vice-captain.

“His remarks were dangerous for Bangladesh’s cricket. It could or still can cause much damage to our cricket. That’s why we think he needs to be more careful about what he says being the T20I team vice-captain,” the BCB chief said.

He said their main objection is to Tamim’s criticism of the outfield and the curator.

“Our outfield has already got two demerit points. No match will be played in Dhaka if it rises to four. So, what sort of remarks are these? A captain can’t speak like this! He needs to be more responsible,” Nazmul said. 

The BCB boss also said Tamim’s remarks were one of the reasons behind his recent sacking as vice-captain of the Test team.
