The woman, an employee of Bangladesh Railway, initiated the case at Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Sunday.

Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman passed an order directing the Police Bureau of Investigation to probe the case, said Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, the lawyer for the woman.

Maruf, a first-class and List A cricketer, played for Dhaka Dynamites in Bangladesh Premier League 2016-17.

He was also included in the initial squad for the Tigers' New Zealand tour earlier this year but did not play a match.

The woman, whose name has not been disclosed by the lawyer, claimed that both she and Maruf are from Tangail and they got married with the consent of their families on Nov 29, 2009.

Maruf had been staying at her railway quarters in the port city until Sept 12, 2015.

But, she alleged Maruf later rented another house in Chittagong after developing an extramarital affair.

She also alleged that Maruf had pressured her to get an abortion when she got pregnant.

She suffered a miscarriage when Maruf beat her up on Feb 19 this year, she added.
