The ball was not coming on to the bat, making it difficult to score off the slow pitch.

The hosts finished Day One on 236 for four at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Tuesday.

Mominul scored a solid 80 before getting out in the last delivery of the day. He shared a 95-run stand with Mahmudullah (49) to provide the backbone of the Tigers innings.

“I think 300 runs will be enough considering the wicket. Our bowling is much better than before. If we can maintain correct line and length, 300 will be enough,” said the 23-year old at the post-match press
conference.

“Bowling stump to stump on this wicket will lead to dismissals.”

Shakib Al Hasan is unbeaten on 19 with Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar and Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury to follow.

Runs can be scored if batsmen stayed on the wicket but they would have to fight hard for it, said Mominul who scored his 10th successive score over fifty in Tests.

“(Batsmen) cannot force runs on this wicket, they would rather lose wickets. It will be better to settle in and try to score runs.”

Bangladesh’s run rate on the first day was 2.62 per over. They had not planned for such slow batting.

“Balls stay down, come on late. It is possible to stay at the wicket but scoring is a bit difficult.”

“Shakib and Tamim (Iqbal) were aggressive in the ODIs. Even they couldn’t do it (today).”
