The vaccination programme for children will initially open at 12 centres in Dhaka, Maleque told reporters on Thursday. It will later expand to the rest of the country.

Students will be administered the US-made Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to the minister.

"The health directorate will be able to vaccinate 40,000 children each day," he said.

Bangladesh will receive another 3.5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine in November, Maleque added.

The expanded vaccination programme comes after a trial run in Manikganj on Oct 14.

None of the children who received the COVID shot have experienced any health issues since, according to the health authorities.
