The two students suspended on Monday are Jainul Abedin and Mobarak Thakur Prince, both from the marketing department.

Registrar Md Ohiduzzaman confirmed the decision to bdnews24.com.

Known as the supporters of Jagannath University unit BCL President Tariqul Islam, the two were handed to the police on Saturday by the university authorities after the alleged victim filed a complaint.

Her father expressed frustration when the law enforcers released the duo on Sunday, saying no police complaint was filed against them.

Proctor Noor Muhammad said they would take step against Jainul and Prince after consulting the vice-chancellor.

Different student organisations demonstrated at the university demanding punishment of the two BCL activists on Monday afternoon.

Later, Assistant Proctor Mostafa Kamal told bdnews24.com that VC Mijanur Rahman had ordered suspension of Jainul and Prince after initial investigations.

The final decision would be taken after investigation by the university’s disciplinary committee, he added.

The alleged victim said in her complaint that Jainul and Prince asked her to stop while she was passing through the Faculty of Science at the university after her admission test.

They attempted to touch her inappropriately and made abusive remarks, according to her complaint.

BCL activists allegedly attacked the police car taking the suspects to jail on Saturday when proctors rushed to the scene and convinced them to disengage.
