The suspended students are Molla Mohammad Al Imran Palash of the Institute of Education and Research and member of BCL’s Masterda Surja Sen Hall unit, Mahmud Arpon of English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Sifat Ullah of Women and Gender studies department.

The trio were suspended on Sunday following identification of the suspects from CCTV camera footage and media reports during initial investigation into a written complaint filed by the victims, Proctor Golam Rabbani told bdnews24.com.

The final decision would be taken after the three-member investigation team filed its report, he added.

A group of BCL activists beat up Rokeya Gazi Lina and Asaduzzaman Pranto, third-year honours students of economics department, in front of the university’s Registrar Building on Saturday afternoon.

Lina said in a Facebook post that the BCL activists asked them to show identity cards when they identified themselves as students.

The BCL activists got angry and beat up Pranto when he and Lina asked why they were asking for their identity, Lina wrote.

Pranto followed them into the Surja Sen Hall, seeking an answer, but the BCL activists, joined by others, beat him up with sticks. Lina was injured as she tried to save Pranto, she wrote.

Hall Provost ASM Maksud Kamal saved the duo and escorted them to their halls.

The investigation committee would file the report within seven days, Maksud Kamal said.

“We don’t expect recurrence of such incident on the campus,” he said.
