The purported assault on Farhaan Uddin Ahmed, who is an alumnus of the university, took place on Sunday.

Tension has heightened on Dhaka’s Mohakhali campus of the university since the incident on Sunday afternoon. Police have also been called in.

Law Department Alumni Association Director Yasir Arafat told bdnews24.com, “The university's registrar and several other staffers beat Farhaan Uddin Ahmed to have him sacked for good.”

He said they have also notified the Banani police about the incident.

Farhaan Uddin was appointed on a contractual basis. Students have alleged that the assault on him has taken place after his contract expired.

Alumni members gathered at the university later on Sunday night and began protesting against the incident. They also demanded an apology from and punitive action against those involved in the assault.

Both former and current students have also taken to social networking sites including Facebook to protest and demand justice for the teacher.

Accused of carrying out the attack on him, BRACU Registrar Md Sahool Afzal, a former army officer, was not available for comment.

No one from the university administration was available for comment either.

Banani police Inspector Abdul Matin told bdnews24.com, “A case over the matter is already being processed. The OC (BM Farman Ali) knows the details about it. He also has gone to the spot.”

OC Ali was not immediately available on the phone for comments.
