The network will normalise soon, the leading telecom operator with over 72 million users said in a statement on Sunday.

The storm hit Bangladesh earlier in the morning with sustained wind speed of up to about 90kmph whipsawed trees, utility poles, mobile phone network towers and other establishments.

The storm damaged Grameenphone’s network, mostly in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal and Chattogram.

Grameenphone workers kept the main network alive as they were prepared for the storm, the statement said and added they were working relentlessly with the related authorities to repair the network as soon as possible.

Power outage in commercial lines hit the network towers but the company arranged alternative sources of power.

In some areas, however, it would take some more time for restoration of power connections which would also led to a delay in normalisation of the network, the telecom firm said.

Grameenphone Deputy CEO and CMO Yasir Azman thanked its workers for their continuous efforts during the storm.

“We hope our network will become normal very soon,” he is quoted to have said.
