Commercial power supply is turned off before a storm hits an area and restoration takes hours, according to a statement issued by the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh or AMTOB.
Mobile network operators or MNOs have backup for up to eight hours at some sites, but they fail to continue service as it takes around 20 hours for power supply to resume, AMTOB said.
Nearly half of all network sites in Bangladesh were left without commercial power during Saturday’s storm, the association said.
And almost 35 percent of the network sites still had no commercial power 12 hours after the storm, leading to complete outage at around 15 percent sites, it said.
AMTOB has asked the authorities for measures to ease tye sufferings of the subscribers due to prolonged power outages.
