Students at the Science Summer School will take part in a five week residential programming featuring math and physics classes, mentorship from experts and learning with like-minded peers, AUW said in a statement.

The programme focuses on classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, bioinformatics, mathematics and SAT exam preparation.

The lessons will be taught by visiting professors from Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and AUW faculty members.

Each year as many as 80 secondary school students will be invited to participate in the school.

Applications for this year are due online or by mail by Apr 30.

The programme will help students “hit the ground running as a math or physics scholar at the university level”, it said.

Graduates from the programme will receive a certificate of merit and be introduced to a ‘powerful network of friends and mentors’ committed to STEM education and careers.

Top performers will receive invitations to enrol at AUW as undergraduates and may also get scholarship support, partial or full, based on financial need.

The launch event for the programme was held on Mar 25, 2019.

Rubana Haque, a member of the Asian University for Women Board of Trustees and managing director of Mohammadi Group was the chief guest at the event.

“This is going to aspire female scientists to help them go to the next level. AUW is always all about graduation to the next level. Five weeks of engaging with maths and physics, which starts from Jul 5 and ends on Aug 8, where we offer mentorship from experts and which will be taught by the doctoral candidates from Stanford and other top American research universities- that says a lot,” she said.

The Asian University for Women was founded in 2008 in Bangladesh’s Chattogram and is dedicated to women’s education and leadership development.
