The Bangladesh embassy in Beirut announced the suspension in a notice posted on Facebook on Aug 26, citing problems created by some mischievous recruiting agents.

Asked about the notice, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Nomita Halder told bdnewsw24.com they lifted the suspension on Tuesday.

The secretary asked the recruiting agents about following the immigration rules strictly.

Earlier, Bangladesh Ambassador in Lebanon Abdul Motaleb Sarker had said Bangladeshi workers were not getting proper jobs due to activities of the country’s recruiting agents.

“We urged the agents to give correct information on the workers and give them the promised job. As the situation has not improved, the government is suspending recruiting workers until a new system is launched,” he had said.

Embassy officials said they would check the recruiting agencies’ capabilities before giving those the permission to send workers under the new system.

Around 150,000 Bangladeshis are currently working in Lebanon.
