It also aims to regulate the management of trading goods and services using information and communication technology.

The government will form a cell under the commerce ministry to implement the ‘National Digital Commerce Policy 2018’ properly, according to the draft cleared in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

Protecting consumers’ rights, ensuring sellers’ accountability and security for digital transactions, risk management, and coordination among the firms related to digital commerce will be the duties of the cell.

It will also publish a list of all the digital commerce firms on the ministry’s website.

The firms will have to publish their email address, phone number, registration ID, price and description of goods and services, and other conditions on their website, app, and online marketplace, according to the draft.

“The policy aims at the expansion of industries, development of export and create more jobs in ICT and other sectors,” Cabinet Secretary (Coordination and Reform) NM Zeaul Alam said after the meeting.

The policy also aims to create proper atmosphere to run digital commerce, make necessary legal structure and guidelines to protect interests of traders and customers, he added.
