The decision has been taken after a meeting between German Ambassador Thomas Prinz and representatives of reputed German companies in Bangladesh recently, the embassy said on Wednesday.

Siemens Bangladesh CEO Prabal Bose, Country Manager of DHL Nooruddin Chowdhury, Managing Director of BASF Sazzadul Hassan, Country Representative of Commerz Bank Tawfiq Ali, CEO of Fichtner GmbH Thomas Holzapfel and Head of Finance of Bayer Crop Science Syed Sarwar Moorshid were present at the meeting.

The council is the result of initiatives by German private companies in Bangladesh.

The aims of this group are to encourage investment in and trade with Bangladesh and provide a social environment for business networking for the German companies, the embassy said.

To support the growth of German businesses in Bangladesh, the council will organise business networking events and will connect businesses with each other.

This group will also take the lead to strengthen business relations between Bangladesh and Germany.

The council and the embassy will meet on a regular basis to exchange views and to organise mutual support.

Germany is the biggest market for Bangladesh in Europe with the two-way trade being worth more than $5 billion.
