The popular ridehailing service in a media statement says the first-of-its kind policy will provide both riders and driver partners with free coverage for accidental death, permanent disability and hospitalisation in case of an accident while on-trip using the Uber App.

“We are deeply humbled by the love and support we have received from our riders and drivers in Bangladesh and this announcement is a reiteration of our commitment to them,” said Prabhjeet Singh, Regional Geberal Manager, Uber.

He expected the insurance policy will be a pioneer in shaping the future of the industry, as ridesharing has become a popular concept.

Riders of both UberMOTO or two-wheelers and Uber 4-wheeler vehicles will receive coverage in case of accident while using the Uber App and are available from beginning and end of trip by the rider.

The coverage offered includes Tk 200,000 in the event of accidental death, up to Tk 200,000 for permanent disability and up to Tk 100,000 in case of hospitalisation.

Uber driver partners aged up to 70 years of motorbikes as well as four-wheeled vehicles intended to carry passengers will get coverage for accidental death, permanent disability and hospitalisation for in-patient medical treatment in case of an accident while using the Uber App and are available for when the driver partner is en route after accepting a trip request till the end of the trip.

The insurance cover will be free to the driver partners, giving them peace of mind while enjoying the flexibility of independent work.

The coverage for driver partners is same as the riders.
