The market witnessed a volatile day, juggling between red and black to eventually end flat. A positive start helped the key index gain over 27 points in early trade. However, it retreated soon enough as a correction kicked in and declined over 70 points.

At the close, the benchmark DSEX rose over 8 points or 0.2 percent to settle at 5,580.

However, the two other indices closed marginally lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, saw a fractional fall of 0.8 points to 2,082. The DSE Shariah Index, DSES, was down about 3 points to 1,322.

Decliners outpaced losers: of the 336 issues traded, 139 advanced, 154 declined and 43 remained unchanged.

“The day kicked off on a higher note, but failed to sustain at the close as investors were cautious. News on the country’s graduation from the LDC status to a developing country failed to generate a buying spree,” said an analyst.

Turnover still remained discouraging as the total turnover on the DSE stood at nearly Tk 3.9 billion, which was slightly higher over the previous day's Tk 3.6 billion.

However, the Chittagong Stock Exchange also closed flat with its Selective Categories Index, CSCX, rising nearly 4 points to close at 10,414.
