DSE index hits eight-month low

The broad index of Dhaka Stock Exchange fell 0.94 percent on Sunday to its lowest level in eight months.

That means the index is down 7.5 percent so far this year.

The DSE saw Tk 2.36 billion in trades on Sunday, a Tk 371 million drop from on Thursday, the last trading day of the previous week. That was the lowest in 20 months.

The last time trading had been lower was Jul 10, 2016, when total transactions amounted to approximately Tk 2.09 billion.

Trading fell off steadily throughout the day.

Of the 330 companies and mutual funds that traded on the market on Sunday, 53 increased in value, 246 fell and 31 remained unchanged.

The DSE broad index, DSEX, fell 54 points to 5,773, while the DSES fell 9.21 points to 1363 and the DS30 fell 17.6 points to 2126.1.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange dropped by Tk 123 million to Tk 124 million.

Of the 221 companies and mutual funds listed, 35 advanced, 162 declined and 24 remained unchanged.

The CASPI index fell 138 points to 17,862.
