Citibank explores how to support digitalisation of economy

Citibank, NA Bangladesh has organised a seminar to discuss and look into the emerging technological changes in the areas of trade-related process and payments with specific emphasis on how global institutions like Citi can support digitalisation of the country’s economy.

The seminar titled “Next Wave of Treasury Digitization #LookingAhead” was attended by senior officials from Bangladesh Bank, Ministry of Finance, clients and industry experts in the field of digital payments and e-Commerce.

The program held in Dhaka recently included two interactive panel discussions on the current payment landscape and digitisation of trade-related processes, the bank said in a media release on Tuesday.

Separate speakers’ sessions were also arranged on payment behaviour of Bangladesh’s young consumers and future of wallet based payments in Bangladesh.

Subhankar Saha, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank attended the program as the chief guest. Rizwanul Huda, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance, N Rajashekaran, Managing Director and Citi Country Officer, Bangladesh and Debopama Sen, Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions, South Asia were also present during the event.

Subhankar Saha discussed the importance of leveraging technology to create effective payment solutions. He also illustrated how Bangladesh Bank was playing a pioneering role to expedite the nation’s journey towards a paperless economy.

Debopama Sen summarised the disruptive trends in the global financial world and how Citi positioned itself to build and deliver various innovative solutions for its clients.

Md Moinul Huq, Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions, Bangladesh reiterated the importance of digitisation in cross-border payments and explained how automation can help to increase Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the international market.

He highlighted specific examples of Citi delivering solutions that helped digital business flows such as customs duty payments.

While giving his remarks, N Rajashekaran said, “As a leading global bank in the country, Citi is committed to innovation and platforms that will drive the Digital Economy of Bangladesh”.
