Jabbar, who took charge of the telecoms ministry last week, spoke about his plans at the inauguration of the three-day Smartphone and Tab Expo 2018 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Thursday.

“The submarine cable company charges Tk 204 per Mbps bandwidth, excluding VAT, not Tk 600. We will provide internet bandwidth at the same or lower price if necessary, but you must provide WiFi for free,” he said.

“Those that will offer fee WiFi will get the opportunity to buy bandwidth at lower rates,” he added.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the number of internet users would rise if the ISPs cut bandwidth price and increased the speed.
