“We made profit of Tk5.37 billion last year from a loss of Tk 1 billion in the previous year,” Managing Director Md Ataur Rahman Prodhan said at the new logo unveiling ceremony at the Bank’s headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.

“We have turned around,” he said.

A red circle surrounding a green banyan tree, the same colours as the national flag, make up the new logo.

“It was the original logo when the bank was established in 1972. After 1977, it was changed and over the years it has been changed again and again. Now we have returned to the original form,” the Managing Director said, flanked by the Chairman of the Board of Directors Monjur Hossain.

The Managing Director said fewer branches are incurring losses now than before. “It (the number of branches making losses) is now only 33, compare to 144 even two years back.”

The chairman thanked the bank management for their success and said ‘sky is the limit’.

The banyan tree is a symbol of economic activity, he said.

“In the past village markets used to sit under banyan tree”.

He said the Rupali Bank’s success was better than all other state-owned bank, “if we compare on the basis of the number of branches”.

“We operate with only 563 branches which is almost half of the other state-owned banks”.

Senior management and officials of the bank were also present during the ceremony.
