Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will inaugurate the factory, ‘Resilience’, on Wednesday, the prison’s Superintendent Subhash Ghosh told bdnews24.com on Tuesday.

Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Rabbi Mia said the factory have two units – one for RMG products on a 6,000 square feet area and the other for Jamdani products on a 1,000 square feet area on the jail premises.

“This is the first ever RMG factory in a Bangladesh prison,” he said.

The factory would sell the products through Aarong initially, Rabbi said.

He also said they planned to export the products through Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BKMEA.

“The inmates will be able to send money to their families,” he added.
