MA Awal appointed new chairman of AB Bank

MA Awal has been appointed the chairman of AB Bank following the departure of former chairman M Wahidul Haque.

Feroz Ahmed has been appointed vice chairman of the board of directors. Both were previously on the board.

The bank’s annual general meeting at Dhaka’s Le Meridien hotel accepted the resignation of three members of the board of directors on Thursday.

The chairman and the vice chairman were appointed at a board meeting following the general meeting. Three new directors were added to the board – Mostaque Ahmad Chowdhury, Sajir Ahmed and Shirin Sheikh Moinuddin.

BNP-era foreign minister and former AB Bank Chairman M Morshed Khan, his son Faisal Morshed Khan and other shareholders attended the annual general meeting on Thursday.

Morshed Khan told bdnews24.com that the new chairman, the vice chairman and other directors were appointed at the board meeting.

New director Nazir Ahmed is the son of departing Vice Chairman Salim Ahmed. Sheikh Moinuddin and Moshtaque Ahmed will represent M Morshed Khan.

Shares in the banking sector have been fluctuating in the past few days amid changes in the management of Islami Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank and Exim Bank.

Various companies and groups are buying bank shares to gain stakes in the market.
