She made the call during a meeting with outgoing UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Saeed bin Hajar Al Shihhi at her official residence Ganabhaban on Sunday.

The premier mentioned the 100 economic zones being built across Bangladesh, said Hasina’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

These zones may open opportunities for the UAE to make investments and set up new industrial units, she told the outgoing ambassador.

Shihhi pointed out three deals that Bangladesh and UAE had sealed while he was in office—two on services related to communication and security, and the third on the exchange of convicted inmates.

He also mentioned the two memoranda of understanding or MoUs that the UAE had signed with the Power Division of Bangladesh.

On Hasina’s request for visa-free travels for Bangladeshi diplomats to the UAE, Shihhi said the matter would be raised for discussion during meetings of foreign ministers of the two countries.

The ruling Awami League head suggested Shihhi revive UAE’s proposal to fund the construction of a hospital in Chittagong’s Rangunia and thanked him for “adding new dimensions to the bilateral relationship”.
