Grameenphone says it has appointed Karl Erik Broten as its Chief Financial Officer or CFO.
Broten has been serving as CFO of its parent company Telenor’s Malaysian operation DiGi.
His appointment in Grameenphone will be effective from Sept 1, the telecom operator said in a media release on Thursday.
He will be replacing Dilip Pal who is joining DTAC, Telenor’s operations in Thailand.
Before Malaysia's DiGi, Broten was CFO at Telenor Pakistan and Telenor Hungary, formerly Pannon GSM.
With over 20 years of experience in Telenor Group, he has also held leadership positions in Telenor Norway, Telenor Business Solutions, and in Telenor-owned operations in Russia, among others, according to the release.
“I’m honored to be appointed in such a vibrant organisation that is providing telecommunications and digital services to 60 million people," it quoted him as saying.
Broten holds a degree in business administration with a major in international management from Agder University college, Norway.
Grameenphone also said in the release that it has appointed its director, financial accounting and reporting, Mustafa Alim Aolad, as deputy CFO.
He joined Grameenphone in 2013 as director of corporate finance and treasury. He earlier worked at KPMG, Barclays Bank, HSBC and AB Bank.
Grameenphone CEO Michael Foley welcomed both Broten and Aolad.
"I’m pleased to welcome Karl to Bangladesh and to the Grameenphone family. His vast experience working in Asian and European markets coupled with Aolad’s expertise in Bangladesh’s financial market will surely help guide us towards transforming GP into the leading digital service provider of Bangladesh,” Foley said, according to the release.
