No hike in prices of sugar, vermicelli before Eid, say wholesalers
Traders have at last come up with a piece of good news for Eid-ul-Fitr shoppers – the prices of sugar, vermicelli and other spices will remain stable until the big festival.

The price of sugar which soared at the beginning of Ramadan is now back to normal, they claimed.
The wholesale price of sugar has come down to Tk 2,900 from Tk 3,300 per 50 kg and retailer will soon start selling them at Tk 65 instead of Tk 68 per kilo, according to Faruq Hossain, a salesman at Sonar Bangla grocery in New Market.
A sack of 50 kg sugar is being sold at Tk 2,900 in New Market and Karwan Bazar. Retailers are selling them at Tk 68-70 per kg.
The price of vermicelli, a traditional delicacy for Eid, is same as previous year, according to wholesalers of Karwan Bazar.
A 200-gram packet of brands like Bonophool, Kulsum, Pran, Prince, Kishwan and Danish are available at Tk 30. The 500g special (laccha) ones are on sale at Tk 90-120.
Prices of spices are also stable. Kishmish (raisins) are on sale at Tk 280 per kg. Prices of cardamon are between Tk 1,300 and Tk 1,380 per kg. Finer ones will be available at Tk 1,700.
The price of ‘alu bokhara’ has gone up from Tk 420 to Tk 480.
Almonds are available at Tk 630 to Tk 750 per kg while cashews can be had by paying Tk 50 more: at Tk 870 per kg. Cumin is on sale at Tk 360-370 per kg.
