JBCCI elects new board of directors

The Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) has elected its new board of directors for a two year term at the 12th annual general meeting.

Managing Director of AK Khan & Co Ltd Salahuddin Kasem Khan was elected president while Managing Director of the New Vision Solutions Ltd Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan secretary general on Tuesday.

Managing Director of K-Line Bangladesh Ltd Asif A Chowdhury and Managing Director of YKK Bangladesh Pte Ltd were elected as vice-presidents.

Naoto Yamada, general manager of Sumitomo Corporation Asia Pte Ltd’s Dhaka Office, is the new treasurer of the bilateral chamber that promotes two-way trade and investment.

New directors include JETRO Dhaka Office Country Representative Kei Kawano, Juki Bangladesh Ltd General Manager ABM Shamsul Alam, ITOCHU Corporation Dhaka Liaison Office Representative Takeshi Okamoto and Islam Aftab Kamrul & Co Partner AKM Kamrul Islam, Toyota Tsusho Corporation Dhaka Liaison Office Representative Takeshi Sugimoto, Leatherex Footwear Industries Ltd Managing Director Mohammed Nazmul Hassan and Akanat Services Ltd Managing Director Hideki Tanaka.

Managing director of the Pacific Quality Control Centre Ltd Akhtaruzzaman was designated the new adviser to the board at the meeting at Gulshan Club.

Japan is the largest development partner of Bangladesh. The two countries embarked on a “comprehensive partnership” during Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit in September 2014 when a large business delegation that comprised all major Japanese companies accompanied him.

The JETRO chief on the sidelines of Tuesday’s meeting told bdnews24.com that after that visit Japanese investments witnessed a jump in Bangladesh.
